The major triterpenoids that have been reported from O. vulgare are pentacyclic triterpenoids such as ursolic and oleanolic acids that are common to most Labiatae, whilst diterpenoids have not been found in O. vulgare (Kintzios, 2003). Glycolipids and essential fatty acids have been found in the aerial part of O. vulgare ssp. gracile, include 15-methylhexadecanoic acid (Asilbekova et al., 2000). Rao et al. (2011) reported the presence of ursolic acid, oleanolic acid, ?-sitosterol and triacontanol in an ethanolic extract of O. vulgare from India (Rao et al., 2011). Moreover, Baranauskaite et al. (2016) reported the presence of ursolic acid and oleanolic acid from ssp.hirtum by 48 h maceration in ethanol/ non-aqueous solvent (glycerol or propylene glycol) (Baranauskait? et al., 2016). Ursolic acid isolated from ssp. hirtum is known for its anti-thrombotic activity (Goun et al., 2002). Assiri et al. (2016) analysed cold-pressed oregano oil for its lipid classes, fatty acid profile, tocols and phenolics contents. The level of neutral lipids was the highest, followed by glycolipids and phospholipids. The main fatty acids were linoleic, oleic, stearic and palmitic acids. ?-Tocopherol constituted 32.1 % of total measured tocols followed by ?-tocotrienol (25.8 %) and ?-tocotrienol (21.3 %) (Assiri et al., 2016). The FTIR analysis of O. vulgare seeds proved the presence of alkenes, aliphatic fluoro compounds, alcohols, ethers, carboxilic acids, esters, hydrogen bonded alcohols and phenols (Al-Tameme et al., 2015). Koukoulitsa et al have also isolated two polar compounds (12-hydroxyjasmonic acid 12-O-?-glucopyranoside and p-menth-3-ene1, 2-diol 1-O-?-glucopyranoside) from the aerial parts of ssp. hirtum growing wild in Greece (Koukoulitsa et al., 2006b). In another study, a new dihydrobenzodioxane derivative, origalignanol were isolated from the aqueous ethanolic extract of the aerial parts of O.vulgare for the first time (Lin et al., 2003).It was reported that hexane extract of ssp. viride contained fatty acids and hydrocarbons such as hexadecanoic acid methyl ester, 9,12-octadecadienoic acid methyl ester, 9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid methyl ester, cyclotetracosane and 1-eicosanol
