The first golden age of independent films flourished after the liberation during the 90’s. It resulted to film companies being established which gave birth to independent films in our country. Although that is the case, prosperous times did not last long when another type of film began to rise—that we call today “mainstream” films. With these at hand, society was blinded by the fake reality of the mainstreams. (Grant, B. K., 2007). People have different attitudes, beliefs and ideas in their heads. We are diverse yet similar in some ways that brings us together as a whole. For choosing your audience, one must carefully consider them since not everyone can relate their thoughts. (Amihan et al., 2010) Indie filmmakers since the beginnning of the film era were already creating movies that reflect our reality. They seek to get our attention so that we would be more conscious on the issues happening around us. Even if they don’t have the sufficient financial support to promote their indie films, they continued to reach out. These directors didn’t just make films merely for entertainment but to invent new concepts and ideas that we longed for. (Fuentes, G. N., Labilles, D. M., ; Reyes, R., 2017) A filmmaker is the same as a writer of a book. Just like how the writer connects his or her readers to the story, the filmmaker wants you to connect—or rather put yourself in the movie as if you’re the one experiencing it. Expressing thoughts through his or her own perception without sugarcoating the occuring events. (Donald, J. & Renov, M., 2008)
