The costs of how healthcare is rising is an ongoing concern and worry for many American households. One of the main factors contributing to these rising costs is healthcare fraud. It is often very difficult to detect fraud. The amount of how much healthcare fraud actually happens every day is still unknown. The timeframe for initial billing, payment, and reimbursement is 90 days. This allows services to receive a fast payment, however, this also means that a bill is already closed and moved on before there is any indication of fraudulent billing going on. The average cost of healthcare fraud in America is millions and maybe billions of dollars each year. There is obviously a lapse in character and ethics with every act of fraud in our healthcare. This paper will discuss a few types of healthcare fraud along with a couple settled cases and will also go over a few ways to help control Americas fraud in our healthcare system.
