In 2019, it is estimated that there will be around 2.77 billion social media users around the globe, up from 2.46 billion in 2017. That’s a lot of people. This allows celebrities to take advantage of their clueless followers to advertise and endorse different companies and brands. Celebrities are on social to promote themselves as a brand.
I personally refuse to follow the so call celebrities on social media. Their only goal is to collect a following on as many different social media platforms as possible, so they can make as much money possible.
Celebrities are making some serious money of Instagram. You may think celebrities are on Insta just to stay in touch with their fans but they’re only in it for money. You may not realise but internet celebs only use Instagram for advertising their tv show, make up line or even their next album.
When celebrities have a new product for sale your social media is bombarded with photos or videos of the new, usually overpriced, product. The so called tv star and Instagram model Kylie Jenner can make up to $150,000 per Instagram post through her sponsors. Now that’s just incredible.
Clothing and shoe brands are also profiting of these living billboards we call celebrities through endorsements and paid promotions. When a young fan is scrolling through their Instagram feed and sees Lil Uzi Vert in a new pair of Off White Jordan sneakers or Kanye’s new pair of Yeezy slides the teens feel like they need to cop them to stay relevant.
Instagram’s top influencers are taking advantage of their thousands of followers and profiting from it. Sounds a bit unfair, doesn’t it?
Another social media platform that celebrities use to make money is YouTube. Just recently two YouTube big names Logan Paul and KSI took part in a boxing match to settle an online feud. Fans of the youtubers paid $13.50 just to watch the amateur bout with around 800,000 people doing so. Reports suggest that the pair of vloggers will walk away with up to anywhere between $50 million and $70 million each. Oh, by the way it was a draw, so a rematch has been called which means more money. How convenient.
They’re not the only youtubers making the big bucks. PewDiePie— a very well-known Swedish youtuber— can make up to $300,000 per video thanks to his 65 million subscribers, that’s nearly three times the population of Australia, no wonder he makes such a ridiculous amount of money just by having ads played throughout he videos.
Internet celebrities depend on social media to survive if it wasn’t for social media most of today’s most loved celebrities wouldn’t exist. Even if they were there would be no way for them to advertise their clothing brand or their makeup line.
With the population of social media users forever growing, so does the opportunity for social media stars to making a living. These so called celebrities are
