I recently planned and took a session where the pupils had to practice cursive writing. I had mixed ability children in the group and was able to allow the higher ability children to practise before writing the letters in their books, they then needed to create a couple of paragraphs describing their favourite book or film and what it was about using the cursive writing. The lower ability children had different levels of cursive writing some eligible some not. Two children were distracted by each other so I started with setting them some letters to practice regaining their concentration and attention and the other children had limited English. I helped them complete a simple sentence about their favourite film describing what it was called and what it was about and supported with their cursive writing going over how to form the letter. The result was a very well set out piece of work by each pupil showing their knowledge of the cursive letters and how they form them.
