Effective communication is important because it helps develop positive relationships between both parents and pupils who we come into contact with in school. If we have positive relationships then communication between all parties is likely to be strong and effective. The positive relationships built with the parents because of effective communication will pass onto the pupils when we deal with them in school or outside school. This is because they will see that we are modelling effective communication skills. It is also important for pupils that we continue to model effective communication skills. This means that we must check what we are saying sometimes in moments of stress or excitement, so that pupils can understand what our expectations are in school. This means also that we should be mindful of how we communicate and behave at all times. Because if we ask pupils to behave in a certain way and then forget to do so ourselves the pupils will find it harder to understand the boundaries of what is acceptable.
