Child development is a field of study that seeks to understand all aspects of human growth and development from infancy to the beginning of adulthood. Child development is measured based on the different aspects of growth and development which include physical growth, cognitive growth, and social growth. Psychology defines “growth” as “the physical change that a particular individual undergoes.” On the other hand, psychology defines development as a progressive increase in skill and capacity of function as a result of maturation and experience. Child development is strongly influenced by genetic factors (genes passed on from their parents) and events during prenatal life. It is also influenced by environmental facts and the child’s learning capacity.
