Food Manufacturers are Definitely Poisoning Us
A lot of times consumers are made to think whether to purchase a product because it was grown organically or in a certain manner that would benefit them. It is a clear thought that a person goes through when passing through an aisle thinking about why a certain product is priced in a certain manner whereas the other one’s being cheap, the simple answer is that food manufacturers are trying to maximize the profit to an extent that they do not clearly care about the consumers. A lot of people think that organic food, or certain manufacture’s food is better in comparison with the regular suppliers because certain manufacturers would use factory farms, which puts the life of the workers at a high risk along with mistreating the animals, they try to mix up taste of certain things by adding various chemicals in the foods, certainly they are poisoning the consumers.
It is certainly very important for a person to know what they are eating or consuming is coming from where. Because without which it would make the person to become solely in the hands of manufacturers, small investigation about how the meat is coming to the market shelves would open up a window to look into various ways in which the food is being farmed. As mentioned in, “Do Foodies Care About Workers”, the author explains the various ways in which worker’s themselves are not being treated properly imagine the animal being humiliated. It also explains how certain meats are sprinkled with flavors so that the customer would get an idea or a taste of the food being served to be fresh (Kohn 217). This also explains the way in which the working conditions that the labors go through are so horrible and that, the company does not even care much about it, instead all they want to do is make more profit by creating or building efficient streams of work. This also explains the unhealthy way in which the meat or fruits or vegetables are being brought to the supermarket as almost everything is tailored to seem fresh but is chemically changed. In the article which was published in VegNews, explains the way in which meat farms or fruits and vegetables farms are in very horrible condition. The author states that, “”They have these things that are like garbage bags that are made into sleeves with elastic ends, and you put these over your arms, tucking them inside your gloves” (Hawthrone). This explains the way in which the farmers are being forced to wear certain chemicals and these actually make the condition worst for humans, similar kind of mistreatment is being done on the crop itself so that it is avoiding pests and various insects from ruining the crop. Such things, explain that the way in which the food is being manufactured and brought to the shelves of the markets it is clearly being poisoned slowly in one way or the other. Without using these chemicals, and harmful pesticides, it is impossible for the food to last for such a long time. Preservatives being used at a very high in canned foods also can be seen as an example of the way in which food is being poisoned as it is certainly unhealthy.
It is certain that consumers should try avoiding factory farmed products because it is extremely bad not only for us, but also for the workers that are working in horrible conditions. As mentioned in Food Matters, “The Only Way to Have a Cow” talks about various ways in which factory farmed meat can be injurious to the health. The author states, “And the fact that the product of this exercise “tastes good” sounds pretty lame as an excuse. There are technofixes-engineering the corn feed so it produces less methane, or giving the cow shots so they eructate less violently” (McKibben 201). Explains the way in which the animal is injected with certain chemicals so that it does not act in bad manner before dying, this also makes the cow not to emit waste and therefore saving money for the manufacturers, these also contribute in the factory having less cleaning to do and also make sure that they benefit regardless of the torture that the animal is going through. It is evident that if an animal is kept in such a situation, there would certainly be different reactions in the body and organs, which the consumers are going to consume. There is no test in the meat being reached to the customers, instead the entire concentration is on making the killing and cleaning process of the animal much cost efficient and certainly no one cares after the meat has left the factory. Another article which was published in Huffington Post explains, “scene after scene of workers performing acts of violence against pigs, with no sense of what the workers are trying to accomplish. The clips chosen are often ones in which they are shouting harshly, mostly in Spanish, with the screaming of pigs as a skin-crawling backdrop” (Spangher). This explains the slaughtering process that the pigs go through and it seems to be very harsh because the animal is alive and the skin is being removed layer by layer and then in the end when the pig is begging to die, finally the animal is killed. These scenarios, explain the harsh condition that an animal who cannot even talk goes through in these farms and these people are actually efficiently supplying meat and various products to the customers without thinking that these are being consumed by us and we do not know any effect that would happen in the future after eating factory farmed products. Another article in Natural Society explains the way in which antibiotics are injected in dairy and meat products can cause huge side effects in the future. (Fassa). This explains the way in which certain antibiotics are administered into products that would last longer and even taste better and the consumer would not even know that what he is consuming has antibiotics or elements that would be harmful for him in the future.
Various side effects can happen when kids consume milk or dairy products in which antibiotics have been administered. Excessive hair growth can be seen in babies, “Free-range chickens and pigs will increase the price of food” (Hurst). This explains that people would be given a choice to pay a higher price point in order to have better food, and the lower price point food would certainly be poisonous in the long wrong. Here, the middle-class society can be seen suffering because they would not have enough money to purchase expensive products and instead would have no choice but to find the cheapest product available in the market.
Although some people would argue for a fact that food is getting cheaper by these methods such as factory farming, but the quality is becoming poorer. It is certain that if a person is being offered cheap products, the process that goes into making the product fall into a lower price point justifies the fact that it is being processed in a harmful manner and in the future can definitely cause health problems. The whole point of making more money and maximizing the business is something that the manufacturers look for and as long as a product is purchased by the customer, they would not care what happens next. Clearly these days, food is becoming cheaper in certain categories but the quality and originality of the product is fading and should strongly be questioned.
